The chickens we are currently raising are the Heritage Breed Barred Plymouth Rock. Our chickens are pasture raised and rotated throughout our property every three weeks in the summer to ensure access to fresh grazing and new sources of insects. Even during the winter months, our birds are given the freedom to run outside as long as the weather permits. When pasture food is not readily available, our chickens diet is supplemented with feed called “whole earth” along with table scraps and garden waste.

This feeding regime results in eggs that are a soft warm brown colour on the outside and a deep golden yellow that cannot be matched on the inside.

Any health issues with the chickens are addressed with isolation and specific treatment for the specific birds affected.

Our goal is to give our chickens the best quality of life possible and are raised on a 2 year life/laying cycle as compared to the commercial 1 year cycle.
